Zhang Xinyi is a Shanghai-born Director and Cinematographer whose work blends movement, atmosphere, and emotional resonance into visually poetic worlds. Now based in Ontario, Canada, she directs across commercial visuals, fashion films, music videos, and experimental cinema, crafting imagery that is textural, embodied, and sensorially driven.

Trained in art in Paris, Zhang later worked in Shanghai’s advertising industry as an art director and editor, shaping her sensitivity toward composition, rhythm, and visual culture. This background informs the sculptural and tactile qualities of her filmmaking.

Her work has been recognized internationally, including Best Music Video at the Toronto Independent Film Festival (2025), as well as selections at the Montreal Independent Film Festival and the Robinson Film Awards International Film Festival.

Influenced by European art cinema and the spiritual poetics of Andrei Tarkovsky, Zhang continues to explore cinema as a language of memory, sensation, and presence — expanding her practice through VFX, mixed-media collaboration, and performance-based image-making.
